Yes, and maybe prevent songs from being added to the queue in the first place? When I search for a particular song and add it, all the other songs I found are added as well. That's uhm... quite annoying to say the least... ;)

Twan,
I understand the desire to manually control which songs get added. We're explore a lot of queue improvements. This is one. It's a balance as we really strive to promote music discovery, not just be a music search vehicle.

Hi Kirk,
I understand the balance thing, though less control for the user isn't the way to go about that IMHO.
Also, if you search for a song several versions will show up. And the only thing you're accomplishing, is playing the same song over and over again, albeit different in quality and—if you're 'lucky'— version.
Just my 2 cents... ;)

Hey Twan,
It's not less control per se, it's how we see the focus of the product which has always been rooted in discovery.
As for search and ADD to queue, it should only be adding the tracks you click the + button for and not all the search results. Are you saying that's what happens when you do a search?

Yes, that's right. I search for a song, add it to the queue, start listening to it and when the song ends the songs that were also found—but were not added by me—somehow have been added to the queue and start to play also.

Ah, I see.
By chance are you clicking the Play All button at the top of the search page results?

If so that would add them all to your queue since you are saying Play All of them. If you want to add just the one, click the + icon to the right of the heart icon and just that one track will be added.

No, I clicked the icon to the left of the song, but after that one has played it jumps to the next song in the list of found songs, even if I'm already searching for a new one and looking at a whole new list of found songs. But now I think I understand the difference between all the playing and adding options:

Yup, you got it.
We're working on queue management as well as the ability to flush a queue. Currently the exfm queue is dynamic based on the page you are on and there isn't a method to delete or clear it with say one button or in the drop down itself. We're working on the best way to handle that and hope to offer it in the near future.
In the meantime you can flush the queue by visiting a song page not in your queue and playing that track. That will put just that track in your queue and remove all the others. It's a bit of a workaround and probably not exactly what you want. We will improve this functionality in the near future. Promise.

Hi Kirk,
We're experiencing a similar predicament on our tumblr site (thesoulelectronic.tumblr.com). When we started the blog last August, we initially posted music via the "audio" post format. We have since switched to "text" posts, which has resulted in some complications with our ex.fm player.
Rather than playing music by order of post date, our 10 or so audio posts from last summer are the first tracks in our queue. We would much prefer to have our recent audio tracks (via "text" posts) streaming first. Is there any way we can remove the old audio posts from our queue without deleting the posts? Let me know!
Thanks for your time,
Kelly

Right now we unfortunately can't guarantee the order of the songs. I'm sorry. We are working on that aspect and queue controls. Apologies.

Ah, I figured that was the case. Unfortunate but understandable. Thank you for the quick response. We appreciate your efficient service.

After three quarters of a year, the queue still gets filled with all the songs from the initial search results that follow the one I pick, not just the one song I picked. I mean, when I want to play just the one song I'm after, I need to 1) click the plus sign and 2) click the play button - because just hitting play will add all the songs from the search results, following the song I want to play to the queue.
This behavior/functionality is not going to change?

Hello,
Unfortunately, this is the functionality of the play queue for right now. You are able to delete songs added but you're only able to do it one by one. We definitely have some queue features to work on, but they are not our top priority right this moment.
